COLD HITTERS

AL -- Alex Gordon, Kansas City Royals

Gordon hit .045 (1 for 22) with 10 strikeouts in seven games from Sept. 5-11. The lone hit in the span came on an RBI single in a loss to the New York Yankees on Sept. 6. He has a poor .097 batting average with 13 strikeouts in September. He has hit .269 with 19 home runs and 66 RBI this season.

NL -- Alexi Amarista, San Diego Padres

COLD TEAMS

AL -- Texas Rangers

The Rangers went 1-5 in games from Sept. 5-11. They were held to three runs or fewer four times in the defeats in this span, and the losing continues their miserable second half. September has been a rough month for them, with the Rangers just 1-9. They haven't won consecutive games since claiming two straight victories over the Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners from Aug. 24-25. The Rangers own the majors' worst record at 54-92.

NL -- Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks went 0-6 in games from Sept. 5-11. The slide is part of a terrible 2-8 start to September. Offense was the main culprit in their defeats from Sept. 5-11, with them being held to two runs or fewer each time. At 59-87, they are tied with the Colorado Rockies for the worst record in the National League.

TWEET OF THE WEEK

It's not every day that you see a baby tiger and a baby lion occupy a major-league clubhouse. That was the case Wednesday, when Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Mark Buehrle arranged for the "big cats" to hang with his teammates before facing the Chicago Cubs at Rogers Centre. According to the National Post, Buehrle came up with the idea after meeting with the owner of a small zoo. The pictures are fantastic, and there's plenty of cute to go around. Enjoy the little guys while they're young.
