MLB Quick Hits: Freddie's back!

Published Aug. 19, 2015 6:56 a.m. ET

Been missing Freddie Freeman? Us too! The Braves' first baseman is scheduled to come off the DL in time for today's game at San Diego. Freeman has been out since Aug. 3 due to an oblique injury, and here's hoping that this was his second and final DL stint of the season. Start him if you've got him.

In other news ...

The Padres traded OF Will Venable to the Rangers for minor-league catcher Marcus Greene Jr. and a player to be named later. Venable will provide outfield depth in Texas, but the big winner here is speedy San Diego OF prospect Travis Janikowski (32 SB in the minors). "We're not going to let him come up and just sit on the bench," said GM A.J. Preller. Even if Janikowski shares some time with Melvin Upton Jr. - who homered twice on Tuesday - he's worth a look in deeper mixed leagues if you need steals.

Giants OF Hunter Pence (oblique) is headed to the disabled list AGAIN and expects to miss about two weeks. The Giants had a patchwork outfield on Tuesday, but expect Nori Aoki (concussion) to return Thursday and Angel Pagan (knee) back in about a week. They're so shorthanded that Madison Bumgarner pinch-hit last night. MadBum singled, of course.

John Axford has been reinstalled as the Rockies' closer. He's owned in just 15.3 percent of FOXSports.com leagues.

The Twins hope that closer Glen Perkins (neck) will be ready to pitch during this weekend's series at Baltimore. Perkins is expected to get a cortisone shot and have an MRI today. Trevor May could be in line for saves until Perkins returns.

Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (broken wrist) might be done for the season, and you should move on if you own him. Cesar Hernandez is likely to get playing time at the hot corner.

Yasiel Puig will have an MRI today on his right hamstring. Keep your fingers crossed.

Mark Teixeira's bruised leg will keep him out again today, but the Yankees don't (yet) think he'll need a DL stint. Greg Bird will play while Teixeira is out.

Look for 3B David Wright to return to the Mets' lineup on Monday

Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) hopes to play on Thursday. Teammate Derek Holland starts today for the first time since April 10.

There are five afternoon games on today's schedule, starting with Twins-Yankees at 1:05 p.m. ET. Set your lineups accordingly.

Raisel Iglesias tossed seven scoreless innings as our Tuesday streaming starter. Today's pick is Milwaukee's Wily Peralta (owned in 6.9 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) against the so-so Marlins.

DFS advice (based on 50/50 games, night games only, salaries from DraftKings): Even at $10,300, Jaime Garcia looks like a solid SP play against the depleted Giants ... After considering many SP2 options (Lester, Strasburg, Buehrle, Happ), I'm going to pay for Dallas Keuchel ($11,400) and see what group of bats I can piece together on a night featuring some very hittable starters ... Remember the thing about Lester not being able to hold runners? If Rajai Davis ($3,400) leads off for the Tigers, he'll run every time he gets on base ... BvP alert: Miguel Cabrera ($4,800) is 14-for-25 against Lester ... Nats 2B/3B Danny Espinosa ($3,400) is one of today's better Coors buys against LHP Jorge De La Rosa ... If you need a really cheap OF, look to Cleveland's Abraham Almonte ($2,000) against the very hittable Joe Kelly ... Any Red you'd like to start vs. Jeremy Guthrie - SS Eugenio Suarez ($3,700) is on my radar - is fine with me.

See you back here tomorrow morning.
