The members of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Ring of Honor are getting some new neighbors.

Bruising fullback Mike Alstott and quarterback Doug Williams will join the club this season, the team announced Wednesday. Each will be honored during a home game against a division rival.

"Today we celebrate two of the greatest Buccaneers in our team's rich history," Buccaneers co-chairman Bryan Glazer said in a release. "Doug Williams and Mike Alstott epitomize what it means to be a Buccaneer. They were winners on the field, but they left a lasting mark on our community and with our fan base long after their playing days were over."

Williams, who was the quarterback from 1978-82, was the first man to start a full season under center in the team's history and is fourth on the franchise's all-time passing list and third in passing touchdowns. His ceremony will be Dec. 6, when Tampa Bay hosts the Atlanta Falcons.

"I just want to say this is certainly a great day," Williams said at the press conference announcing the inductions. "Somebody called me last night and said, 'How many times do you get an opportunity to be in two stadiums?' I don't know. But I don't know I got the opportunity to be in two stadiums (both the Tampa Bay Ring of Honor and Washington Ring of Fame). I certainly appreciate being here because this is where it all started.

"I can remember when I was drafted, we all met down in Sarasota. The first guy I met was Lee Roy Selmon. When you talk about Lee Roy Selmon, you talk about defensive linemen. You are looking for that brutal, heavy-voiced type of guy. I was scared when I put my hand out there I knew he was going to squeeze it to death. He handed it out there and said, 'Hi guy,' (in a high pitch voice). It killed me. Killed me. (Laughter)."

Alstott, who played 11 seasons in Tampa Bay and was a three-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler, will be inducted Oct. 4, when the Buccaneers play the Carolina Panthers.

"First of all I'd like to say how honored (I am) and mention -- to be in the same class as a Lee Roy Selmon, as a John McKay, Jimmie Giles, players that I played with (like) Paul Gruber, early in my career was a great mentor to me, Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks, obviously great friends and Hall of Famers, and now Hall of Famer and legend Doug Williams," Alstott said. "To put my name in that category is humbling, it really is. It's emotional. You dream about it.

"Even though I'll be recognized as an individual, it wouldn't have been possible without so many people along the way, starting at the top. The Glazer family, thank you. To be in a great organization for so many years and to be here for 12 years -- a couple on IR (Injured Reserve), but I'm still counting them (laughter) -- not a lot of people can say that. To keep my family here -- thank you for allowing me to live my dream."

The duo will join six previous inductees: Hall of Famer Lee Roy Selmon, coach John McKay, tight end Jimmie Giles, offensive lineman Paul Gruber and Hall of Famers Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks.
