Marlins notes: Latos scheduled to start Tuesday against Nationals

MIAMI -- Miami Marlins right-hander Mat Latos will make his scheduled start on Tuesday night against the Nationals in Washington.

Latos, who exited Wednesday's outing in the fifth inning with a strained left hamstring while running out a single, had been listed as day-to-day. He threw a successful bullpen on Saturday that reassured the Marlins he would be healthy enough to pitch. 

The 27-year-old is 0-3 with a 6.86 ERA in five starts this season.

"Latos is going to make his start," manager Mike Redmond said. "Throwing went well, so that's good news for us."

Dee Gordon, who leads the majors in hits (44) and average (.440), got Sunday's finale off. He had started all 24 games. Donovan Solano started in his place for the first time in 2015.  Backup catcher Jhonatan Solano will make his Marlins debut for J.T. Realmuto, who had started eight consecutive games.

For the first time in the organization's history, brothers will play in the same major-league game.

Martin Prado, who got hit by a pitch on the back of his hamstring on Saturday, sat out. Reid Brignac took over at third base. Michael Morse returned to the lineup after a day off.

"Just a day off," Redmond said. "We've got a long roadtrip coming up with 11 games and some day games there and stuff. He's played every game and day games make it tough on these guys, so good time to get a couple of guys who haven't gotten many at-bats in there. We're going to need all those guys. Get them a blow and hopefully keep them out of there the whole game. We'll see."
