Dolphins re-sign tackle Jason Fox to two-year deal

The Miami Dolphins moved quickly to lock up one of their own free agents ahead of the NFL free agency period by re-signing tackle Jason Fox to a two-year deal, the team announced Thursday.

Multiple sources have reported the total value of the contract to be worth $2.5 million.

"We are excited that we have reached an agreement with Jason to keep him with the Miami Dolphins," general manager Dennis Hickey said. "He was a very positive addition for us last season both on the field and in the community."

The former University of Miami standout originally signed with Miami in 2014 and played as both right and left tackle in a reserve role. Fox started the final two games of the season after right tackle Dallas Thomas was injured.

"Miami is like a second home to me," Fox said. "I love the situation there with this team, where it's headed. I think (Head) Coach (Joe) Philbin and Mr. Hickey and the whole organization and team is headed in the right direction. I see bright things with the Dolphins future, so I wanted to be a part of that."

He will enter his fifth pro season playing behind starters Ja'Waun James and Branden Albert, who is still recuperating from an ACL/MCL tear and may not be ready to start the season.

"That might have been part of their thinking," he said of quickly reaching to terms with the Dolphins. "Obviously, Branden is a great player, he's one of the best tackles in the NFL. If he's not ready to go, I'll be ready. Whatever role these coaches want to put me in, like I've always said, I'm here for the team and however they want me to contribute, I'll contribute. If he's not able to go Week One, I'll be ready."

Fox was also the recipient of the Nat Moore Community Service Award voted on by the Miami Dolphins Foundation for his dedication to the South Florida community.
