Dolphins' Louis Delmas named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

After a dominant performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday, Miami Dolphins safety Louis Delmas was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Delmas put his stamp on the game with an interception and 81-yard touchdown return to open the scoring for the Dolphins in the 27-13 victory. He also recorded two tackles, a fumble recovery, and a pass defensed. He's the first Dolphins player to tally an interception and fumble recovery in a game since teammate Reshad Jones did it in 2012.

The 81-yard interception was the eighth-longest in franchise history and was his first interception of the season and seventh of his career.

This is the first such award for Delmas in his career. He's the eighth safety in franchise history to win the honor since it was established by the NFL in 1984.

Delmas is the second Dolphins player this season to be named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after defensive end Cameron Wake won it after his Week 1 performance against the New England Patriots.
