San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich isn't much of a talker, but he was happy to deliver some good news to one of his former assistants.

Atlanta Hawks' Mike Budenholzer first learned he was the NBA's coach of the year from his longtime mentor.

Budenholzer, who was on the Spurs' coaching staff from 1996-2013, thanked Popovich in an emotional speech on Tuesday.

"This award I think has a permanent spot on his desk in San Antonio," Budenholzer said. "He just kind of shares it around every couple of years and lets us take a picture with it."
