Shaun Gayle testifies at murder trial
Ex-Chicago Bear Shaun Gayle testified Tuesday that he had sex with his business associate Marni Yang the night before she allegedly murdered his former girlfriend, Rhoni Reuter, and their unborn baby.
Yang, who was arrested after allegedly confessing to a friend who was wearing a recording device, has been charged with first-degree murder and the intentional homicide of an unborn child.
Gayle, 49, had previously maintained that Yang was a business associate, involved in real estate transactions, but testifying for the prosecution Tuesday he admitted the relationship at times turned personal.
Asked about having sex with Yang, Gayle said: "It was, on average, roughly two to three times in the course of a year."
He said Yang came to his house 10 to 15 times in all from the time they met till the time of Reuter's murder about two years later.
Prosecutors argued Yang was jealous of Reuter, 42, and obsessed with Gayle, and that she stole Gayle's email passwords and sent harassing letters to some of his other girlfriends and lovers.
Yang's lawyers have argued that police prematurely focused on her as a suspect, ignoring other women they contend had relationships with Gayle.
Gayle had been with Reuter since about 1990, but said their relationship was not exclusive.
