Report: Detroit Lions sign free agent TE David Ausberry
The Detroit Lions held a veteran free agent workout, but not one of the headlining attendees—running backs Ben Tate and Daniel Thomas, wide receivers Robert Meachem and Brad Smith—was signed by the team immediately after the session, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.
The Lions did, however, come to an agreement with under-the-radar tight end David Ausberry.

Ausberry (6-4, 258 lbs.) played the last four seasons with the Oakland Raiders, who selected him in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL draft. He has recorded 11 receptions for 120 yards as a professional and has only appeared in six games since the conclusion of the 2012 season.
Including Ausberry, the Lions now have six tight ends on the roster. Eric Ebron, Joseph Fauria and Brandon Pettigrew are the big names in the competition, but a surprise contender could certainly emerge.
The Lions released safety Nathan Lindsey to make room for Ausberry on the roster.
