Peterson tops McCoy for Madden championship after overturned TD call
Rain drenched the Madden Bowl party but didn't keep partygoers from being glued to the action on screens and mingling with the NFL stars in attendance.
Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson won the event, an annual celebration of the popular Electronic Arts video game.
Peterson's team defeated reigning Madden champion LeSean McCoy in a digital match that mimicked the NFL playoffs when an official review overturned a touchdown run by McCoy's team.
During the playoffs, an officials' call led to the elimination of the Dallas Cowboys from the playoffs.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was one of several NFL stars who attended the event, which featured a performance by Nelly and a halftime show by Norwegian musicians Nico & Vinz.
Comedian Kevin Hart provided occasional banter during the event, but retreated from the stage while the matches were played.
Nico & Vinz provided an upbeat set despite the rain, and said before their performance that they likely wouldn't attend the Super Bowl because they were focused on writing new music. The duo scored an international hit with "Am I Wrong," performed at Sunday's Pro Bowl, and are about to join Usher on a European tour.
Even if they don't make it to the stadium to watch the Super Bowl, Nicolas "Nico" Sereba said the experience of being at the festivities of the week was surreal.
After all, it was only a year ago that Nico said he was watching the Super Bowl - on television.
