New York Jets: Sammy Watkins Says He Will Play on Thursday

The New York Jets recently appeared like they were going to be catching a break against the Buffalo Bills. However, wide receiver Sammy Watkins has vowed to play.

Earlier in the day, it appeared that the New York Jets might be facing the Buffalo Bills without wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

The Bills looked like they were facing a tough decision to possibly shut down Watkins for a significant time because of a foot injury. However, Watkins says he will not be missing any time.

The news that Watkins is going to be playing comes as a bit of a shock on a short week. The Jets could have certainly used any advantage that they could have gotten against the Bills. Last season, the Bills were one of the main reasons why the Jets missed the playoffs, as they defeated them twice.

In New York last season, the Bills were able to win an ugly game on Thursday night football. In Week 17 with a spot in the playoffs on the line, the Jets came out and looked awful in Buffalo. One of the reasons for the loss was the play of Watkins. In the Week 17 win, Wakins totaled 11 receptions and 136 receiving yards.

The Jets were recently torched by wide receiver A.J. Green in Week 1. Cornerback Darrelle Revis has taken much of the blame for that, as he did not play well at all. Furthermore, Revis will now likely have to line up against Watkins, who says that he is fine. If you believe Watkins, Revis will be tested once again in Week 2, and the game suddenly becomes much more difficult.

Finally, as the week goes on we will have to monitor the health of Watkins. If he is indeed healthy and playing, the Jets will have a challenging game on Thursday night.
