Matthew Stafford: 'No question' Detroit Lions offense has taken strides
After a second offseason in offensive coordinator Joe Jombardi's scheme, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has a realistic view of his platoon's progress.
"I mean, it's obviously always a work in progress," Stafford told Kyle Meinke of MLive.com. "You're always trying to find new ways to get better.
"But there's no question we've taken strides forward this spring."
A careful observer of the Lions as a team beat writer, Meinke agrees with Stafford's notion that the offense is improving. Thanks to Stafford's grasp of the scheme, head coach Jim Caldwell is also part of the contingent hyping Detroit's offense heading into the 2015 season.
"He's improved," Caldwell told MLive.com about his quarterback. "He has a better feel for the system. You can see our timing's better, receivers have a better sense of the routes that they're running. All around I think we've made some improvement."
In his first year running Lombardi's offense, Stafford completed 60.3 percent of his pass attempts, as he threw for 4,257 yards, 22 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions. He also made his first Pro Bowl appearance.
