Los Angeles Rams might be in first place, but could prove to be pretenders

Following another road victory in Week 4, it’s time to take an honest look at the Los Angeles Rams.

Starting off the season 3-1 would be great for any team in the NFL, but Los Angeles’ case is special. As the team continues to handle the phase of re-location, it appears as if the anxiety has worn off and the team is at home.

Even though three of their first four games have been on the road, it hasn’t stopped them from producing.

Their season started in the exact opposite fashion, however, as a shutout loss to the 49ers wasn’t exactly wonderful.

We now round the quarter mark of the season with the Rams owning a tie-breaker with both Seattle and Arizona. Both the Seahawks and Cardinals were heavy favorites to fight it out for the NFC West, but so far that hasn’t happened.

Los Angeles effectively shut down an Arizona team that could’ve improved to 2-2.

The fact that the Cardinals were down this low this early should speak to their troubles.

To add to that, as if the lack of wins wasn’t enough, Carson Palmer wasn’t able to finish the contest due to injury.

According to an article from Bleacher Report, writer Sean Tomlinson asserts that the Rams are fool’s gold, and anyone who really believes in them already doesn’t understand the issues at hand.

Per the report:

After four games in 2016 Gurley has logged a meager 216 rushing yards. Yes, he made a contribution as a pass-catcher during Sunday’s win with his 33-yard reception which was quickly erased when quarterback Case Keenum fumbled.

Los Angeles will host the Buffalo Bills next weekend in a game that will determine more about the team than might meet the eye. Case Keenum hasn’t been spectacular, but he’s been good enough for the Rams.

Todd Gurley, on the other hand, might as well be non-existent.

The Los Angeles Rams need to ensure they can play a more balanced kind of football, especially if they expect Gurley to contribute long term.

Jeff Fisher has to do a better job of using his challenges too, as he’s lucky that two poorly challenged plays didn’t come back to cost his team the game.

October will determine the reality of the Los Angeles Rams.

But if they carry the same strength, swagger, and strength of victory by then, there’s no more excuses for calling them pretend.

They’re here to stay.
