ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) A waterfront football field has been renamed in honor of New York Jets coach Todd Bowles, who also received a key to the city where he was raised.

During a dedication ceremony Saturday that included Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage and New Jersey Sen. Raymond Lesniak, it was announced that Elizabeth's Waterfront Field will be called Todd Bowles Waterfront Sports Complex.

Bowles, 52, played at Elizabeth High School before starring at Temple as a defensive back and then during an eight-year NFL career that included a Super Bowl victory with Washington in 1988. He was hired as Jets coach in January 2015 and went 10-6 in his first season.

Bowles and his family also presented a check for $25,000 to Elizabeth Public Schools' Special Olympics projects.
