Cowboys VP Jones denies that Dez threatened to hold out

The Dallas Cowboys and Dez Bryant are stuck in a game of cat and mouse. Earlier on Monday, Ed Werder reported that the wide receiver has informed the Cowboys he will hold out from regular season games if he doesn't get a long-term deal by this Wednesday's deadline. More recently, Werder has confirmed that in a text message, Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones has denied that Bryant ever made the threat.

If the Cowboys and Bryant do not reach a long-term deal by Wednesday's deadline, Bryant's options moving forward will be limited. The star wide receiver will be forced to either play out his one-year $12.82 franchise tender or to sit out. Skipping training camp and game action will cost Bryant a lot of money just to make a point.

Both sides are playing hardball at the moment, and it remains to be seen which side will crack first. The Cowboys certainly have the cap space to make Bryant's request come true, but they also hold all of the leverage.
