Convention canceled over LA stadium building fears

A medical association has canceled plans to hold a gathering of 5,000 members in downtown Los Angeles because of worries about being surrounded by construction if a proposal to build an NFL stadium on part of the city's convention center campus goes forward.

Society of Critical Care Medicine spokesman Jim Flanigan said Thursday that the organization worried that members may have trouble accessing the convention center due to construction and that one building they need to use may not be completed in time for the February 2014 event.

Developer Anschutz Entertainment Group wants to tear down and relocate a convention center building to make room for the proposed 72,000-seat venue.

Loss of convention center business during construction has been a recurring concern raised at meetings about the stadium plan.
