Cardinals hires Cioffi as defensive backs coach

Published Feb. 15, 2011 10:24 p.m. ET

Louie Cioffi has been hired to coach defensive backs for the Arizona Cardinals after 14 seasons on the staff of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Cioffi was just 23, the youngest assistant in the NFL, when he was hired as a defensive assistant by the Bengals in 1997. He has been Cincinnati's assistant defensive backs coach for the past eight years.

With the Bengals, Cioffi coached for a time with new Arizona defensive coordinator Ray Horton. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt fired defensive coordinator Bill Davis, secondary coach Donnie Henderson and assistant defensive backs coach Rick Courtright after the team's 6-10 season.
