Brissett starts at QB for Patriots, Garoppolo inactive
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) Jacoby Brissett started at quarterback for the Patriots on Thursday night, the first rookie starting QB for New England since 1993.
The 23-year-old Brissett led the Patriots out of the tunnel before the game against Houston and took the snaps after New England forced a Texans punt on their first possession. Brissett got the start over the injured Jimmy Garoppolo, who inherited the starting job when Tom Brady was suspended for ''Deflategate.''
Brissett made his NFL debut in relief of Garoppolo and completed 6 of 9 passes for 92 yards against Miami on Sunday. Garoppolo was inactive against Houston, leaving the Patriots with just Brissett on the depth chart at QB.
Receiver Julian Edelman played quarterback in college at Kent State and is expected to be the emergency QB if something happens to Brissett.
