Bills deserve to lose after gross incompetence
The Buffalo Bills are a joke. Not because they are 0-2, but because of the way they have handled their business.
Owner Terry Pegula is a standup individual by all accounts, but allowing head coach Rex Ryan to fire offensive coordinator Greg Roman after having him pose for the team picture on Friday afternoon.
Buffalo has not made the playoffs since 1999, and it won’t make again in 2016 barring divine intervention. The Bills can’t figure out the quarterback position, ranging from Alex Van Pelt and J.P. Losman to Doug Johnson, Trent Edwards and Tyrod Taylor. The same can be said for the head coach, which has been a revolving door or mediocrity including Dick Jauron, Mike Mularkey, Doug Marrone and Ryan, among others.
Ryan might be the biggest joke of them all, considering the way he pops off before getting popped by opponents. The Bills are a laughingstock to everyone except Ryan, who somehow got away with hiring his twin brother, Rob, as an assistant head coach. Rob is coming off a season as defensive coordinator with the New Orleans Saints, where the defense ranked penultimate in yards allowed.

Pegula should save face, and time, and simply fire both of them. Give defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman a chance as the interim head coach. Thurman is considered a bright mind around the league and might prove to be a diamond waiting to be found.
I’ve made plenty of fun of Buffalo in the past, but in this case, it’s genuine sorrow for a fan base that deserves so much better. The Ryan twins have to go, and perhaps then the team can start turning its fortunes around. It feels like the Bills are so far away from being decent, but a few pieces here and there make a world of difference in the NFL.
The time has come, and hopefully Pegula realizes it.
