49ers Right Guard Anthony Davis Considering Retirement Again, per Report

San Francisco 49ers right guard Anthony Davis missed Saturday practice for non-injury reasons. And a report from Bay Area News Group’s Cam Inman suggests the former first-round pick might be considering retirement again.
San Francisco 49ers right guardAnthony Davis is back in the news again. And, in quite a shocker, he might be considering retirement once more.
The Niners open up 2016 with a Monday Night Football contest against the Los Angeles Rams. Davis was pegged as the team’s starting right guard entering this season, but he was not at the 49ers practice on Saturday.
According to a report from Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News, Davis is thinking about retiring once more.
Inman wrote:
Offensive lineman Anthony Davis might be retiring again, only two days before he was to start at right guard in the 49ers season opener Monday night, sources told this newspaper.
A team spokesman would not confirm Davis’ intentions. The 49ers’ practice report Saturday states that Davis did not participate for a non-injury related reason, which the team said was not injury related.
Davis did not return a text message seeking comment.

Davis abruptly retired prior to the 2015 season in an attempt to give his “mind and body” a chance to heal.
During his absence, the former first-round pick of San Francisco in 2010 made numerous overtures about a return on his Twitter account.
Davis filed for reinstatement and joined the 49ers in training camp.
If this rumor is true, rookie guard Joshua Garnett would likely be slated to start in his place. And fellow guard Andrew Tiller is another option. Zane Beadles is currently pegged to start at left guard.
More from Niner Noise
San Francisco’s offensive line was supposed to be one of the team’s few strengths this season.
Losing Davis, if that happens, would be a major setback for a team trying to get back on its feet under head coach Chip Kelly.
One can only hope the rumor is nothing more than just that.
