49ers Continue to Disappoint

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The San Francisco 49ers continue to disappoint game after game. In the midst of a six-game losing streak, the Niners 2016 season is already over — yet continues to simply get worse.

The San Francisco 49ers were always going to be bad this year. Everyone knew it.

And then Week 1 happened.

After a 28-0 thrashing of the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1, the 49ers have continually found new and interesting ways to sink to even lower depths in the NFL. Two blowout losses to the Panthers and Seahawks put the 49ers in their place and tempered expectations. Then came two near-wins that the 49ers let slip through their fingers.

And then came Colin Kaepernick. The San Francisco 49ers are bad, and they have no “good” option at QB. While Kaepernick has played poorly, Blaine Gabbert was no superstar either.

And both have lost. A lot.

After completing a dismal 45% of his passes in his first start against the Buffalo Bills, the coaching staff hoped Number 7 would be able to be more effective against the lowly Buccaneers. Alas, it was not so.

Kaepernick completed 16 of his 34 passes for only 143 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. That’s good for a 56.4 Passer Rating — the second worst by a 49ers quarterback all season. (Blaine Gabbert posted a score of 51.9 against the Seahawks, but then again, the Seahawks have a good defense and the 49ers had to visit Seattle.)

This article is not about who should be playing quarterback, however. Simply take your pick — the 49ers aren’t going to be good with who they have on their roster right now.

They will, however, continue to find new and interesting ways to out-do their underperformance.
