Who's the best shooting guard in Charlotte Hornets history?
The Charlotte Hornets have not had much success in their relatively brief history. But that doesn't mean they haven't had some extremely talented players.
SB Nation's At the Hive blog reflected on which Hornets shooting guard was the best in franchise history. They polled a few of their writers, and Glen Rice's name popped up more than once.
Here's what one writer had to say:
"Glen Rice earned a starting role for me because I just remember him being unguardable at times during his heyday. Can you imagine what he would do on the team today? Can we clone him and insert him into the lineup now as our 3-point specialist? That's allowed, right?"
At his absolute very best (the 1996-97 season), Rice averaged 26.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. It was his second straight year in the All-Star game and he was unquestionably the best outside shooter in the NBA, nailing 47.0 percent of his threes—which led the league.
It's more than fair to label Rice as the best shooting guard in Hornets history. He was amazing.
