Record season makes Warriors' Steve Kerr NBA Coach of the Year
Steve Kerr didn’t win the NBA Coach of the Year award for going 67-15 in his first season with the Golden State Warriors, but setting an NBA record at 73-9 in 2015-16 apparently did the trick.

Kerr, 50, missed almost all of training camp and the first 43 games of the season while recovering from back surgery. Assistant Luke Walton led Golden State to a 39-4 record before Kerr returned to the bench Jan. 22, but Kerr gets official credit for all the victories. The Warriors finished 34-5 after Kerr returned and broke the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ record of 72 regular-season victories on the final night of the regular season.
With the award in hand, Kerr might be facing his biggest challenge yet in trying to lead Golden State to a second straight NBA title. Star point guard Stephen Curry suffered an MCL sprain in Game 4 of the Warriors’ first-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets and will miss at least two weeks.
