Milwaukee's new owners studied the Spurs closely
Unlike other teams around the league, the Milwaukee Bucks have made a smooth transition from pretender to contender, all while having a change in ownership.
Bucks' owners Marc Lasry and Wesley Edens have taken over for Herb Kohl, and are turning the Bucks into a team that's not afraid to spend money.
But one of the things the new ownership group has done best is to largely stay out of basketball decisions. And that's not by accident.
Here's what Lasry told Mitch Lawrence of the Sporting News:
“When we came in we looked at a lot of different teams, like the Spurs,” Lasry told Sporting News. “You look at, how did they have that success? What drove it? We spent a lot time trying to figure that out.”
“We want to know everything that’s going on,” Lasry said. “But making basketball decisions on a day-to-day basis – that’s not our job. But if we’re going to spend money, we’ve got to sign off on that.”
