Long Island Nets Get Second Straight Win Before Brooklyn Nets

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 4:06 p.m. ET

Last night, both the Long Island Nets and Brooklyn Nets were in action. Brooklyn could not capitalize in Orlando, but L.I. escaped with a 118-113 victory over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

It’s not everyday the Long Island Nets and Brooklyn Nets play at the same time, but last night was the first occasion. Both games were set for 7:00 PM EST, with both teams on the road to face their opponents.

The L.I. Nets faced the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Indiana. In their previous matchup against the Mad Ants on November 25, which was also in Fort Wayne, the L.I. Nets lost, 111-120.

It was a different story this time around. While Brooklyn still could not get their second straight win on the season, L.I. did, after back-to-back wins against the Maine Red Claws and now, the Mad Ants.

In the win, Atlanta Hawks forward Mike Scott led the way with 23 points, four rebounds, and three assists. This was the second game Scott played for L.I. on assignment. Trahson Burrell added 21 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.

Other familiar faces finished the game with double digits in scoring. Yogi Ferrell contributed 16 points and five assists in his third return to Indiana (second as a member of the L.I. Nets). Chris McCullough tallied 14 points and nine rebounds.

Similar to Brooklyn’s matchup against Orlando, the game between L.I. and Fort Wayne was a back-and-forth battle until the fourth quarter. L.I. led 25-22 at the end of the first period, but at halftime, the game was tied at 53, and again at the end of the third quarter, at 83.

In the final period, L.I. went on a 7-0 run to take a 97-92 lead with 6:39 remaining in regulation. The Mad Ants fought back, cutting L.I.’s lead to one, 102-101, with 3:53 left in the game. However, that was the closest they would get. Immediately after that, L.I. went on a 7-1 run and outscored Fort Wayne 35-30 in the fourth quarter.

The L.I. Nets return home on Monday to face the Los Angeles D-Fenders at the Barclays Center.
