Dwyane Wade hints at opting out of his current Heat contract
For the fifth consecutive season, Dwyane Wade is on national television with the NBA Finals going. Unfortunately for the Miami Heat, this time around, it's just as an analyst for ABC's broadcast of the final round of the NBA playoffs. Still, it's good to see Wade on our televisions and mobile devices as the calendar turns to June.
On the "NBA Countdown" broadcast Sunday, fellow analyst Jalen Rose wasted no time in asking Wade if he would be leaving Miami this offseason. Wade was prepared, obviously, and he gave what appears to be a rather bland answer:
"Well, listen, it's summer time," Wade said. "So when summer time and free agency [come together], it's going to be a lot of talk. And right now, I'm glad that the Finals is going and we're here.
"And we'll worry about that in July. Right now, we're going to focus on these Finals."
No worries, right? Everything seems above board. But there's a wrinkle here. Wade would need to opt into his current contract for next season with the Heat before the July 1st deadline. So by saying that he'll worry about his contract status in July, Wade seems to be hinting at the fact that he'll opt out.
So buckle up, Heat observers. Things could be getting bumpy.
