The Dallas Mavericks hosted their annual Fan Jam open practice on Wednesday where the team took part in a public scrimmage.
With training camp getting underway on Monday, Dallas hosted their annual open practice for fans to come out and watch their newest Mavericks team.
The event is always well done as things are given away and concessions are sold cheap, but it’s the scrimmage that everyone comes for. The team was split up into two squads to battle against each other for 15 minutes.
Veterans such as Dirk Nowitzki, Andrew Bogut, Deron Williams, Salah Mejri, and Devin Harris all sat out of the scrimmage while the others put on a show for the crowd.
Although he didn’t play much, it was a first time for Mavs fans to see Harrison Barnes in action on the court in Dallas.
Here are three things that stood out to me from the open scrimmage…

Shocker…Seth Curry Can Shoot the Ball
With the starters taking most of the scrimmage off, Seth Curry took advantage of the opportunity as he put on a little show in front of the Dallas fans.
Curry spent time running the point while also taking time at the two guard alongside of Jonathan Gibson. He slashed up the lane for nifty layups while also drawing defenders and kicking it out to his open teammates.
But it was his outside shot that everyone wanted to see. At one point, Curry drained two consecutive three pointers while also draining a third one before having it called off. He made it evident very quick that he is here to put the ball in the basket.
Curry finished the 15 minute scrimmage with 15 points and looks to garner a bigger role off the bench in Dallas than what he had in Sacramento.

Kyle Collinsworth’s Playmaking
Mr. Triple Double comes into Dallas’ training camp where he looks to translate his all around college game into a game suitable for the NBA. Is he a smaller shooting guard or an all-around point guard? Can he be a combo guard?
On Wednesday, Collinsworth found himself running the point guard spot a lot and he didn’t disappoint.
He ran a picture perfect pick-n-roll with Dwight Powell and even added some flash to a couple of his passes behind his back. He was running the point opposite of Jonathan Gibson and to my opinion, was winning the matchup the whole scrimmage.
He showed his intellect of the game on both ends of the floor, but I was impressed Wednesday by his playmaking the most as the BYU star ran the Blue Team’s offense quite well.
If Collinsworth is going to make this final roster, he will need to continue this type of play throughout the next couple of weeks.

Quincy Acy is Fun
Perhaps the highlight of the entire scrimmage was a play where Jonathan Gibson drove the lane in what looked to be an easy layup, but Acy came up way above the rim for a block off the backboard.
More from The Smoking Cuban
I admittedly haven’t watched much of Quincy Acy as I sparingly saw him play in New York and some last year in Sacramento. But the more I watch I’m in practice, the more I think he can have a role on this team.
Wednesday, at open practice, Acy was simply all over the court as he grabbed rebounds, blocked shots, dunked, and even shot a three pointer…something he has in his arsenal.
It’s important to Mavs fans that Acy is not just a DeJuan Blair type of player. Yes, he can bruise down low for the rebounds, but he has an offensive game also that gives the Mavericks some flexibility off the bench.
I look forward to the battle between him and Powell for minutes off the bench.
