Colangelo: Sixers are lacking basketball people and knowledge
The Sixers brought in Jerry Colangelo to assist in the front office for a reason. The club is going on year three of a horrific rebuild with no end in sight, and ownership (without any pressure from Adam Silver) decided that it was time to get some experienced leadership in place who could steer the ship in a different direction.
That included hiring Mike D'Antoni as associate head coach, and Colangelo said the reason for the new addition (himself included) was because of a lack of basketball knowledge already in place.
This is a fairly candid comment, but it shouldn't come as a surprise. Colangelo has always enjoyed the media portion of his responsibilities, and has no trouble telling it like it is. It might not feel great to people like GM Sam Hinkie and head coach Brett Brown to hear, but it is a reality -- otherwise, Colangelo wouldn't have been hired in the first place.
