The 29-year-old Venezuelan is recovering from a right ankle injury he suffered last December. Overall, his offseason rehabilitation has seemed promising. He appeared to have no problems moving around at open practice on Saturday. Vasquez has also been scrimmaging with his Nets teammates and implied that he may even see some action during the preseason.

“That’s up to the coaches,” said Vasquez, when asked about potential playing time in the preseason. Vasquez only played 23 games last season with the Milwaukee Bucks due to his injury.

“I scrimmaged before [Saturday]. I had a great week last week coming off injury. I’m trying to get as healthy as they can. I’d say it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. … I’m confident in the work we’re doing. I like what we’re doing as a whole and with me personally with my injury.”

This news must be exciting for Nets fans in a season where we’ll get an opportunity to see how Sean Marks and Kenny Atkinson’s visions finally translate to the product on the court.

Vasquez has been a key piece for the teams that he previously played for as both a starter and role player. So it isn’t odd for a competitor like him to want to get on the court as soon as possible, especially after only playing 460 minutes last season.

Vasquez also went on to out say that he wants to go out there and complete. Some exciting stuff from a guy who will be playing the backup role behind Jeremy Lin this year, a spot that will be crucial, as he can share some knowledge with Lin, as well as rookie guard Isaiah Whitehead.

The Nets open their preseason slate tomorrow against the Detroit Pistons and will look to show off their new backcourt featuring Lin, Whitehead, and of course, Vasquez.
