Anthony questionable after knee drain
The New York Knicks say Carmelo Anthony had fluid drained from the back of his right knee and is questionable for their game Sunday in Los Angeles against the Clippers.
Anthony left in the third quarter of the Knicks' 117-94 loss to Denver on Wednesday when the knee was bothering him again. He flew home to New York while the Knicks moved on to Portland for Thursday's game against the Trail Blazers.
Anthony recently missed three games with what the Knicks said was a sore and stiff right knee. He struggled through poor performances in the first two games of their five-game trip, getting held to nine points Wednesday, before deciding to have the procedure.
The Knicks certainly could have used him on Thursday night, as they fell 105-90 at Portland — their third straight loss.
Along with Anthony, New York was also missing Tyson Chandler, who suffered a bruised knee in a collision Wednesday at Denver and was unavailable. And Amare Stoudemire is expected to miss at least six weeks after having knee surgery on Tuesday.
''Being short-handed didn't affect us at all (tonight),'' Jason Kidd said after the game. J.R. Smith had 33 points and Kenyon Martin added 12 to lead the Knicks in their stars' absence.
