Hamlin, Biffle and Logano crash

Published Nov. 17, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

Polesitter Joey Logano and a couple of NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup drivers are already enduring setbacks at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Denny Hamlin and fellow Chaser Greg Biffle sparked a three-car pileup in opening practice Saturday morning, collecting Joey Logano.

Biffle and Hamlin discussed the incident with one another after the crash.

“I don’t think that he (Hamlin) thought we were three-wide," Biffle said later. "He thought we were two-wide. Ultimately, we may not have been three-wide at that particular time, but my spotter told me to leave the 20 (of Logano) room and I left the 20 room. Whether he was there or not, maybe the 20 said, ‘I’ve had enough. You’re three wide, this is practice.’ I don’t know.”

It's the second consecutive weekend for Logano to find himself caught up in someone else's crash as he was running in the top 10 when he was collected in the Jeff Gordon-Clint Bowyer dustup last weekend.

Logano and Biffle will go to backup cars for the race. Hamlin is currently fifth in the points standings and Biffle is seventh. Logano moving to the rear at the start will put points leader Brad Keselowski on the front row when the green flag waves.

“It’s pretty tough because we’ve only got one practice left, but our
other car will be really good," Biffle said of going to a backup.
