Yankees hold moment of silence for Bob Turley

The New York Yankees have held a moment of silence for Bob Turley, the 1958 Cy Young Award winner and World Series MVP.

Turley died Saturday in hospice care in Atlanta. He was 82. The Yankees honored him Monday, before their season opener against Boston.

Turley began his career in 1951 with the St. Louis Browns and went 17-13 in 1955, his first year with the Yankees. His best season came in 1958, when he was 21-7 with a 2.97 ERA and 19 complete games. He won two games and saved another in the Yankees' World Series win over the Milwaukee Braves that year.

He never again won as many as 10 games in a season.

A three-time All-Star, Turley was 101-85 in his career for five teams.
