Out with the old and in with the new. That’s the Mariners’ take on the bat flip.

Among the things the AL West contenders are working on this spring is a replacement for the tired home run celebration.

There you have it: the swash-buckler, the jockey, the lullaby, the grandpa, the drum major and the mic drop.

Nine Mariners finished with double-digit homer totals last season, led by Nelson Cruz’s 43. Although several of those players are gone as a result of the offseason attempt to add speed and athleticism to the roster, Seattle still should have plenty of opportunities to swash-buckle this season.
