The Mariners unveil 6 brilliant alternatives for the bat flip

BY Chris Bahr • March 15, 2017

Out with the old and in with the new. That’s the Mariners’ take on the bat flip.

Among the things the AL West contenders are working on this spring is a replacement for the tired home run celebration.

There you have it: the swash-buckler, the jockey, the lullaby, the grandpa, the drum major and the mic drop.

Nine Mariners finished with double-digit homer totals last season, led by Nelson Cruz’s 43. Although several of those players are gone as a result of the offseason attempt to add speed and athleticism to the roster, Seattle still should have plenty of opportunities to swash-buckle this season.
