Reds CF Billy Hamilton scratched with finger jam

Published Apr. 5, 2014 12:37 p.m. ET

NEW YORK (AP) Speedy center fielder Billy Hamilton has been scratched from the Cincinnati Reds lineup because of a jammed left middle finger.

Hamilton was set to bat leadoff Saturday against the New York Mets, but is being replaced atop the Reds' order by Roger Bernadina.

The struggling rookie was injured when he was caught trying to steal second base as a pinch runner in the eighth inning of Friday night's 4-3 loss.

Manager Bryan Price says Hamilton is day to day.

Hamilton is off to a slow start in his first full season in the majors. He is 0 for 12 without a stolen base.

Also, Price says closer Aroldis Chapman has started light workouts, none baseball related. Chapman, who had surgery March 20 to repair a broken bone above his left eye after being hit by a line drive, could return in May.
