The Philadelphia Phillies and general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. have agreed to a four-year contract extension.
Amaro, entering his third season on the job, helped the Phillies to back-to-back National League East titles and the NL pennant in 2009.
He took over for soon-to-be Hall of Famer Pat Gillick after the Phillies won the World Series in 2008. He was entering the final year of his contract before Saturday's extension.
Amaro has been known for his aggressiveness, trading for aces Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Roy Oswalt in his first two years. He also signed free agents, including Cy Young award winner Pedro Martinez and All-Stars Placido Polanco and Raul Ibanez.
