Montgomery has elbow tightness, will return to New York

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 11:03 p.m. ET

HOUSTON (AP) New York Yankees left-hander Jordan Montgomery has left Tuesday night's game against the Houston Astros with tightness in his throwing elbow.

Montgomery threw just seven pitches in a perfect first inning before being replaced by Domingo German for the second. He appeared to wince after a pitch and shook his arm.

The team says Montgomery will return to New York on Wednesday to be evaluated by team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad.

This was the sixth start this season for the 25-year-old Montgomery, who is 2-0 with a 3.62 ERA.
