Indians INF Donald hurts finger

Published Aug. 29, 2011 11:02 p.m. ET

Infielder Jason Donald has been scratched from the Cleveland Indians' lineup because of a bruised right index finger.

Donald was listed as the second baseman, batting ninth, in manager Manny Acta's original lineup Monday night for the start of a four-game series with the Oakland Athletics. It was not disclosed how Donald got hurt.

Rookie Cord Phelps replaced Donald, whose playing time had increased since rookie second baseman Jason Kipnis went on the disabled list Aug. 19 with a strained right hamstring.

Donald opened the season on the DL with a broken left hand after being hit by a pitch in spring training. He was activated and sent to Triple-A Columbus, where he hit .310 in 47 games. Since being recalled on July 31, Donald has hit .283 in 16 games.
