Hanley Ramirez put hole in Green Monster during BP

Hanley Ramirez is in his first season with the Red Sox after signing as a free agent. On Friday, he left quite an impression on his new home, Fenway Park.

During batting practice prior to the team’s game against the Orioles, Ramirez hit a ball to left field that traveled with enough force to put a hole in the outfield wall. Boston brought in Ramirez to help add some power to a lineup that averaged just under four runs per game last season. They likely weren’t anticipating that power showing itself in this way.

It’s worth noting that Red Sox hitting coach Chili Davis predicted Ramirez’s destruction.

“Shoot, Hanley is going to put dents in that wall,” said Davis via the Boston Globe. “If he gets pitches to hit and squares them up, he’s going to put dents in that wall.”

Too bad Ramirez didn’t perform that well in the big agility challenge during spring training.

If you’re able to make to a ballpark early enough to take in batting practice, there are a few players who are a must-see. Giancarlo Stanton and Yoenis Cespedes come to mind. Chris Davis put a hole in a luxury box window in center field at O.co Coliseum a few years ago. Hanley Ramirez is also on the list of players who deserve a look when they step into the cage. You never know what you might see.
