Cards' Theriot sits after suspension cut to 1 game

Cardinals shortstop Ryan Theriot sat out Thursday's game after his two-game suspension for making contact with an umpire during an argument was cut in half.

Theriot had appealed the suspension. The league offered to drop the penalty to one game if Theriot served it immediately, and he agreed.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa originally had Theriot in the lineup against the Mets but made a late switch. Nick Punto moved to Theriot's leadoff spot and Daniel Decalso played shortstop and batted eighth.
