Cardinals' SS Theriot ejected for arguing call

Published Jul. 17, 2011 4:30 p.m. ET

Cardinals shortstop Ryan Theriot was ejected for vehemently arguing a call at second base.

Theriot had to reach for second baseman Skip Schumaker's throw while trying to get a foreceout in the sixth inning with the Cardinals leading the Cincinnati Reds 1-0 on Sunday. Umpire Mike Muchlinski ruled that Theriot pulled his foot off the base, leaving Zack Cozart safe.

Theriot ran to Muchlinski and pointed in his face while screaming. The umpire quickly ejected Theriot, and first base umpire Chris Guccione stepped between them, directing the shortstop away.
