WATCH: Leonard Fournette puts on Heisman-worthy performance against Auburn

Published Sep. 19, 2015 5:12 p.m. ET

Through the first two games of the season, Leonard Fournette is already proving why he's one of the early frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy in 2015.

Fournette rushed for a career-high 228 yards and three touchdowns on only 19 carries in the dominating 45-21 victory over Auburn on Saturday.

Fournette's first touchdown run came in the second quarter. The sophomore running back evaded virtually the entire Auburn defense with a sensational 40-yard rush. For good measure, he pummeled the last defender en route to the end zone. It isn't known whether an imprint of defensive back Blake Countess was smushed into the turf in Tiger Stadium.

Then in the third quarter, Fournette ripped off another amazing TD run, and it might actually have been more impressive than the first. The 29-yard scamper included Fournette shucking a defender off of his back, as well as making other defenders look helpless in space.

Perhaps most impressively, he accomplished this feat in less than three quarters of play. Fournette suffered a knee bruise toward the end of the third quarter on his final touchdown run, a one-yard score. He did not get another carry as a precaution.

Prior to the game, Auburn defensive back Johnathan "Rudy" Ford didn't think Fournette would pose much of a challenge. Surely, Ford's opinion has changed after this showing by LSU's elite running back.

And Fournette made it clear he and the Tigers let their game do the talking.
