Nunez paying homage to family with slight name alteration

Published Sep. 29, 2015 2:59 p.m. ET

South Carolina true freshman quarterback Lorenzo Nuñez needed a change.

The Georgia native started in last week's 31-14 victory over UCF. He performed exceptionally well, accruing over 300 yards of total offense. Without question, the Gamecocks were galvanized by his efforts. Steve Spurrier may have found his starting quarterback for the next three-to-four years.

Amidst the hoopla of the quarterback transition, Nuñez felt as if his surname needed a bit of an alteration. Against Missouri this upcoming Saturday, the tilde character will be added over the second "n" in his last name. It's how Nuñez's family spells the name, and for some reason, the tilde was not present during the first four games of the season.

Nice to see the youngster staying true to his roots.
