New DC Aranda is ready to 'attack' SEC play
New LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda was introduced by LSU on Tuesday afternoon.
Coming over from Wisconsin, the 39-year old California native is hoping to improve upon an LSU defense ranked No. 25 in total defense a season ago.
Aranda transformed Wisconsin into one of the more impressive defensive units in the country. During his three-year stint in Madison, the Badgers ranked No. 1 nationally in yards per game allowed (289.4), second in points per game (17.0), second in third-down conversion percentage rate (30.2), third in passing yardage allowed (180.9) and fourth in rushing yardage per contest (108.5).
Aranda's attacking style of play is complemented his methodical, intelligent coaching approach. While his base defense likely is a 3-4, he'll be multiple in his looks -- utilizing a myriad of different formations.

"I think you want to play with an offensive mindset, but you want to do it in a way that's intelligent. You want to try to flip the mats as best you can but keep the big plays to a minimum," said Aranda. "I'm ready to attack it. You wouldn't expect anything less."
Without question, preparation is a big key to Aranda's methodology. He's already began working towards next year.
"You want to be ready as best you can, and film study and sitting down and grinding at it is the best way," said Aranda. "I've watched a bunch of SEC film."
