Leonard Fournette injury update: Aggravates ankle

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

LSU running back Leonard Fournette exited the game with an injury to his knee after landing awkwardly late in the game against Auburn.

LSU fans and hopeful NFL teams everywhere held their collective breaths all at the same time when running back Leonard Fournette went down.  He leaped over a player and then had another player hit him from the side and rolled him up awkwardly.

Fournette laid on the ground injured for a while.

The good news is that Fournette was able to walk off under his own power, but there is little information about the extent of the injury. It looked like he was rolled up

[UPDATE:] It apparently was an ankle injury. It didn’t keep Fournette out for long though, he returned to the game quickly.

Hopefully it is because he is fine and not because he feels he needs to return to the game for LSU to have a chance at beating Auburn.

— end of update —

And this is why you can’t fault any college football player for sitting out after already establishing themselves as a dominant player. Fournette is considered to be one of the top prospects in next year’s NFL draft, and perhaps the best at his position. An injury like this could’ve derailed his future.
