Duke Football Signs Talented Incoming Freshman Class on National Signing Day
David Cutcliffe and Duke Football received national letters of intent for 22 student-athletes on national signing day committing to join the program.
Head coach David Cutcliffe has drastically improved the football program since taking over in 2008. One way he’s turned the program around is through recruiting and adding more talented players each season. Duke Football officially signed 22 players to their incoming freshman class on national signing day.
The Blue Devils are shifting their focus to improving the team defensively, with 12 commits playing on that side of the ball, and adding toughness. In a press conference on national signing day after announcing the official signees, Cutcliffe noted “This class is – in my opinion – the most physical class we’ve ever signed”.
Specifically, Duke will add six defensive backs and six defensive linemen as well as four offensive linemen, two running backs, two tight ends, one quarterback, and one wide receiver on offense. The Blue Devils lost out on two talented recruits that had Duke ranked in the Top 25 recruiting classes at one point in LB Ellis Brooks and QB Jack Sears. However, the team will still talent players that will help the team improve after struggling last season. More details on the recruits signing with the Blue Devils on national signing day can be found here.
Duke Football will kick off the 2017 season hosting North Carolina Central on September 2nd. The coaching staff has yet to decide which incoming players will compete right away and who will redshirt, but fans can expect the next freshman class to have a huge impact on the football program going forward.
