ICYMI: Alabama Players of the Game – Week 2
Former Alabama football quarterback Blake Sims finally made his NFL dreams come true. Multiple outlets, including Yahoo Sports, SEC Country, and 247Sports reported that Sims officially signed with the Atlanta Falcons today.
The most interesting part of this announcement is that Sims did not make the team as a QB – but as a running back.

The 6’0″, 24 year old from Gainesville, Georgia has two collegiate national championship rings. Sims played for Bama as a running back and backup quarterback for the 2011 and 2012 Alabama football teams. He beat out graduate transfer Jake Coker in 2014, and won the starting quarterback job.
On December 6, 2014 Sims broke the Alabama football single season passing record previously held by AJ McCarron. In 14 starts, he passed for 3,487 yards, 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Blake hoped to be the quarterback for another Alabama football national championship team. Unfortunately, the Crimson Tide lost to eventual champs Ohio State in the semi-final Sugar Bowl.
Despite success with the Alabama football team, Sims went undrafted in the 2015 NFL draft. It’s reported that he tried out with both the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins as a running back, but neither team offered a contract.
After stints with two Canadian Football League and one Australian team, Sims decided to give the NFL another shot. He tried out with the Atlanta Falcons last week, and Tuesday September 13 signed with the team as a running back.
BamaHammer and the entire Alabama football nation wish Blake Sims all the best in his new career with the Atlanta Falcons! Congratulations, Blake!
