Wisconsin Basketball: Badgers remain No. 14 in AP Poll

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:24 p.m. ET

The Wisconsin Badgers remained at number 14 in the newest edition of the AP college basketball rankings.

For the second straight week, the Wisconsin men’s basketball team remained at No. 14 in the AP top 25 poll, currently the highest ranked team in the Big Ten Conference.

After starting the season ranked ninth in the nation, the Badgers fell tremendously to No. 17 after their loss in the second game of the season to a still-undefeated Creighton team on the road. Wisconsin lingered around the low teens for a couple weeks, ending any chance of moving up following a Maui championship blowout loss to North Carolina.

Today, a seven-game win streak that included wins over Syracuse, Oklahoma and Marquette lands the Badgers at No. 14 entering conference play. The Purdue Boilermakers and Indiana Hoosiers follow right behind at No. 15 and 16 in the poll respectively. Wisconsin will visit the Hoosiers and Boilermakers in their second and third conference games in contests that could likely hold league title implications down the road. Indiana and Purdue are the only other ranked Big Ten teams.

Fellow conference foes Ohio State (40), Maryland (9), Michigan State (5), and Minnesota (1) all received votes in this week’s poll . Both Maryland and Minnesota are the only teams in the Big Ten with just one loss.

This week’s rankings did not move much after a slow slate in college basketball, with Louisville’s win over Kentucky being the only major shake up. Only the Cardinals and Wildcats moved in the poll more than one spot.
