Vincent's 27 leads UC Santa Barbara past Cal Poly 76-73

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) Gabe Vincent got to the basket for a layup with 11 seconds left in the game to give UC Santa Barbara the lead and Eric Childress added two free throws with a second left to give the Gauchos a 76-73 win over Cal Poly in a battle of teams in search of their first win in Big West Conference play Thursday night.

Vincent finished with 27 points on 9-of-21 shooting, including 7 of 11 from long range. Sam Beeler added 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Santa Barbara (7-8, 1-1 Big West) built a five-point lead at intermission, but the Mustangs battled back to take a 73-72 lead on a 3-pointer by Joel Awich with 1:29 left in the game, but Cal Poly did not score again.

David Nwaba scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Cal Poly (6-9, 0-2).
