Sibley scores 19 to lead Furman past VMI 68-56
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) Devin Sibley scored 19 points with a career-high five assists to help Furman beat Virginia Military Institute 68-56 Monday night.
Stephen Croone added 18 points and Larry Wideman scored 15 for Furman (11-10, 5-3 Southern Conference).
A 3-point play by Trey Chapman gave VMI (6-12, 1-6) an 18-17 lead with 7:47 left in the first half, but the Keydets made just one of their final nine field goal attempts before the break - and committed four turnovers - as Furman closed the half on a 17-2 run.
Wideman hit back-to-back 3s as the Paladins scored 13 straight points to push their lead to 49-28 with 13 minutes left.
VMI responded with a 16-2 run over the next five minutes to cut its deficit to seven, but would get no closer.
QJ Peterson led the Keydets with 16 points.
Furman shot 52.4 percent overall, including 8 of 15 from 3-point range.
