Samford coasts in second half to 84-68 win over W Carolina

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Wyatt Walker scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, including six on the offensive end, and Samford cruised to an 84-68 win over Western Carolina on Saturday night.

Walker finished 11 of 15 from the field. Matt Rose scored 16 points and Marcus Johnson had 13 for the Bulldogs (11-8, 2-4 Southern Conference), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Darius Jones-Gibson added nine points with 10 assists.

Samford shot 52.5 percent from the field and had 19 assists.

Rhett Harrelson hit two 3-pointers in the opening minutes and Western Carolina jumped out to a 12-3 lead. But Samford battled back for a 40-38 halftime lead, and opened the second half on 15-0 run, capped by Rose's 3-pointer, to stretch it to 55-38.

Mike Brown had 21 points and seven assists for the Catamounts (7-11, 2-3). Harrelson and Torrion Brummitt each had 14 points.
